The film „Der Frosch mit der Maske“ ( The Fellowship Of The Frog, 1959) was the first of an unexpectedly long-lived series of German crime films which not only included the highly success-ful Edgar Wallace stories produced by Rialto Film, but also the Dr. Mabuse- and Bryan-Edgar-Wallace-films made by CCC-Filmproduktion. A protacted search involving considerable expense proved necessary in order to bring this particular chapter of German soundtrack history to optimal fruition for the very first time. Of course, a comparasion between the eleven notable composers can be avoided. Naturally everyone will have his personal favourite, for each composer was and is an expert in his own right. Each of them was and is quite unique and they all bring their own characteristic musical expression to „their“ film. This bizarre music with its haunting melodies often brought delightful shivers to the spine, and the instrumentation was for some people so unusual that they could well believe themselves in the realms of hell. These cult film recordings from 1959 - 1964 certainly deserve being preserved for posterity.
