About
Williams Wetsox – Bavarian Blues with Soul
Since New Year’s Eve 1979/80, Williams Wetsox have stood for a truly unique kind of blues – the “boarischer Blues” (Bavarian Blues). What began as a musical experiment in a small pub in Huglfing, a village in the Bavarian foothills, has grown into a sound all its own – raw, soulful, and deeply rooted in the culture of Southern Germany.
At the heart of the band is Williams Fändrich – guitarist, singer, songwriter, and bluesman through and through. With his signature gritty voice and sharp wit, he sings about love and loss, environmental issues, local legends, and the beauty of everyday life in Bavaria. These are blues songs that stretch from mountaintop sunsets to valley lows – always heartfelt, always real.
Over the past four decades, Williams Wetsox have released fifteen albums and countless singles, and have become pioneers of a musical style that fuses traditional Bavarian folk elements with the soul of the blues. Their lyrics are often modern takes on Gstanzl – a form of local satirical song – set to rhythm and blues, creating something uniquely regional yet universally resonant.
The trio currently features:
Williams Fändrich – Guitar & Vocals
Mario Fix – Organ & Bass
Alex Bartl – Drums
Mario and Alex, two accomplished musicians from nearby Peißenberg, bring groove and energy to the band’s unmistakable sound, forming the perfect foundation for Williams' stories and solos.
There are no flashy effects here – just music. Honest, soulful, and straight from the heart. They call it 'boarischer Blues' or 'blues from the homeland' – the style Williams Wetsox have played since 1980.
The regional newspaper Merkur writes:
"This band has put the small Bavarian village of Huglfing on the global blues map."
If you want to experience what Bavarian Blues really means, you have to see Williams Wetsox live. Their music is more than a sound – it’s a way of life in the foothills of the Alps.
