The shared flat
"Die Jungs-WG", "Die Mädchen-WG" and "Die Mixed-WG" - a successful ZDF format for more than fifteen years. The factual coming-of-age format is produced by ZDF together with E+U TV from Cologne for KiKA. The WG format has been extremely popular with the target group from the very beginning. There is now a large fan base, a strong community and a high level of identification.
The premise of all WG seasons: five young people who do not know each other beforehand spend several weeks without their parents in the WG villa in a great place in Europe in a shared flat. They get to know each other there, as well as the country and its people. They take on responsibility for the first time, experience adventures and grow together as a group.
In each flat share, the lives of young protagonists are portrayed authentically and lovingly in an entertaining and funny way. The shared flat offers viewers a projection surface and a comparison with their own dreams for the future.
There are new highlights with each new season - from cool sporting activities, work placements, charity missions, getting to know other young people on location, adrenaline and action, to emotional conversations and moments of friendship. The shoots take place in beautiful European locations such as Mallorca, Portugal, Italy, Amsterdam or Spain, but also in Germany, such as the very first shared flats or during the Corona pandemic.
The theme songs, which were specially composed for each flat share and are sung in part by former flatmates, the boys or girls of a current season or guest stars such as Kati K., Lockerlouis or "Dein Song" winner Sarah Hübers, convey the feeling of life and community of the respective flat share residents.
Over time, WG has evolved from a TV brand to a digital brand, far beyond the target group age on TV. With spin-offs, challenges and clips, WG now serves the media usage behavior of users on various platforms. The community's connection to the format is close and extremely positive.
"Die WG" is aimed at children aged 8 to 13 on KiKA, tivi.de and kika.de, at a target group of 13 to 18-year-olds on Insta and at 13 to 25-year-olds on YouTube.
Die WG as a springboard: In recent years, "Die WG" has had around 100 residents. Faces who later performed in other ZDF formats, are successful in television and film, have become YouTube stars or influencers (Kaya Shyx, Louisa Masciullo, Aaron Königs, Chinedu, Serena Oexle and many more).
