The Tree of Life
Description
"In music," says Dieter Geike, "many things happen in cycles. And one thing you can count on: for all the necessary experimenting and trying out new sound sources, musicians always come back to the tried-and-true standard instruments and the beauty and warmth of their sound."
He knows what he's talking about: while the music scene is currently experiencing yet another guitar renaissance since the invention of the synthesizer, Dieter Geike—alias BLONKER—once again demonstrates his mastery as both guitarist and composer of timeless instrumental music with his sixth studio album, "Tree Of Life."
Yet the Hamburg-based musician is far from a purist or a blinkered nostalgist stumbling through the world of sound: since launching his solo career under the name BLONKER in 1979, following the breakup of the Hamburg band of the same name, he has continuously expanded, refined, and evolved his stylistic range as well as the associated sounds and instruments.
"Basically, no instrument is taboo for me. A painter wouldn’t arbitrarily exclude a particular color but would choose his palette to suit the picture he wants to create. It’s the same with my music."
And still, the guitar remains his main instrument: "It’s where I can express myself best. It will always define the atmosphere of my pieces."
Once again, with this new album, BLONKER has managed to broaden his musical vocabulary, pushing his stylistic boundaries further in every direction. He sees this process as one of the primary sources of joy in his musical work. Working in his state-of-the-art studio, he takes pleasure in what he calls his "quiet craftsman’s happiness: watching a musical piece take shape, gradually unfold and emerge, slowly taking on its final form."
With "Tree Of Life," the internationally renowned creator of melodious and sonically rich instrumental gems continues the tradition he himself established nearly fifteen years ago with the instrumental classic "Indigo."
Once again, he presents an album whose music will retain its charm beyond fashion, trends, and ideology.
