About
Marius Ruhland (born 1975) studied music composition in his home country Germany with composers Prof. Johannes Schild in Cologne and Prof. Dieter Acker in Munich at the Munich Conservatory. In 1999, the top-grossing German horror movie „Anatomy“ (Columbia Pictures, starring Franka Potente) paved the way for a career in film scoring. Marius was only 24 years of age when he wrote a sweeping, full symphonic score for the film that turned out to be the most successful German movie of that year. More jobs from the film world followed instantly, like „Anatomy 2“, producer Bernd Eichinger’s comdey „Like Rabbits“ or Tom Tykwer’s „Heaven“, starring Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi. Besides from scoring for feature films, Marius Ruhland has worked for the television industry on a broad scope. Movies like the German top-grossing „Kennedy’s Brain“, based on the novel by Henning Mankell, or comedies like „Böses Erwachen“ and the epic miniseries „Redeemed by Love“ received highly acclaimed scores. Since a couple of years Marius Ruhland is also busy in the advertising field, mostly for Mercedes-Benz, contributing scores for more than 30 commercials so far. In 2010, the „Linde Suite“, a five movement concert piece comissioned by the German industry giant „Linde AG“, was performed and released on 60.000 album copies. Orchestral pieces like „Daphnis and Xenea“, „Variations on Michael Praetorius“ or „Suite from Anatomy“ have been performed in the past by prestigious orchestras like the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Munich Symphoniker or the Hofer Symphoniker. The Austrian movie „The Counterfeiters“ (Sony Pictures Classics), directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, was awarded with an Academy Award™ in the „Best Foreign Film“ category in 2008.
2011, Marius composed the score for the acclaimed drama "Death of a Superhero" (dir. Ian Fitzgibbon), and, later that year, recorded a big scale orchestral score for the German 3D-animation feature film "Komm, wir finden einen Schatz". In March of 2012, the second part of the concert work "A Journey through Time", comissioned by the German industrial giant LINDE AG, was performed live in Shanghai, China. Besides a choir and a symphony orchestra, the work includes a solo soprano, an Armenian Duduk, several Japanese Taiko Drums and a Chinese Erhu violin.
