Description

A song caught between the longing for peace and a harsh reality

With “Verraten und verkauft” (“Betrayed and Sold Out”), LustfingeR are back in a form that suits them particularly well: direct, raw and uncompromising. The new single takes the political and social uncertainty of our times as its starting point, asking questions without pretending to offer simple answers.

At its heart lies the tension between the desire for peace, growing military rearmament and the feeling that many people have become increasingly alienated from political promises and public debate. The lyrics deliberately pick up familiar peace slogans and political catchphrases, viewing them through LustfingeR’s typically ironic and sometimes bitter perspective.

What happened to the hope that war in Europe might become a thing of the past? And how credible do promises of peace sound when the public debate is increasingly dominated by weapons, deterrence and military strength?

Musically, LustfingeR also return to their roots. Band leader Tom Fock once again takes matters into his own hands on “Verraten und verkauft”, deliberately working without outside producers or additional assistance. The result is rougher, more immediate and more edgy – exactly the right sound for lyrics that were never meant to soothe.

Rather than presenting a political programme, “Verraten und verkauft” is a musical comment from the band’s own perspective: a song about doubts and contradictions – and about the desire for a more peaceful and thoughtful way of dealing with one another.
