Bavarian Dialect Prize 2025 - Congratulations to Williams Wetsox!
The Free State of Bavaria has honored the musician Williams Fändrich, known as Williams Wetsox, with the Dialect Award Bavaria 2025 - as the award winner for the district of Upper Bavaria.
With the award, Minister of Finance and Regional Affairs Albert Füracker honors the extraordinary commitment to strengthening and maintaining regional dialects - in the spirit of diversity, youth and modern language.
Since 1979, Williams Wetsox has stood for the "boarish blues" - deeply rooted in the Upper Bavarian Oberland, carried by dialect, attitude to life and musical independence. His blues "aus da Hoamat" tells of everyday life, work, longing and pride - critical, loving, authentic.
Long before the term "Heimatsound" was even coined, Williams was already singing in Bavarian as a matter of course - and shaping a genre all of his own.
We congratulate him on this well-deserved award!
