Description

Some songs never truly disappear. They simply find a new voice.

With “Seven Tears”, Blue Moon Rising release the second single from their ambitious musical project, reimagining a song that has long become part of international music history. Written by Wolff-Eckehardt “Ekki” Stein, the track first became a worldwide success in the early 1980s with the Goombay Dance Band, reaching No. 1 in the UK charts and selling more than 800,000 copies in Great Britain alone.

But Blue Moon Rising are not interested in nostalgia or a conventional cover version. Together with acclaimed songwriter and producer Ekki Stein and producer/sound designer Peter Staab, they created a completely new interpretation — richer in atmosphere, deeper in emotion, and stylistically rooted far more strongly in the British and Irish folk influences that shape the band’s musical identity.
Blending cinematic soundscapes, contemporary folk-rock and modern pop production, “Seven Tears” unfolds with striking emotional depth. Organic instrumentation, evocative vocals and expansive production transform the song into a timeless piece that bridges memory and modernity.
While the original reflected the spirit of the early 1980s, this new version speaks of longing, distance, hope and the enduring human desire to remain connected despite separation. The iconic melody remains — yet Blue Moon Rising open the song to an entirely new emotional dimension.
“Seven Tears” also represents the artistic vision behind the entire Blue Moon Rising project: honouring tradition while fearlessly creating new sonic landscapes.

Their debut single “Catchin’ the Wind” already introduced the project’s unmistakable musical signature — cinematic atmospheres, emotional songwriting and a sound suspended between folk, pop and modern rock. With “Seven Tears”, Blue Moon Rising continue that journey with remarkable elegance, emotional resonance and international appeal.
