Description
The second album by the Munich group Jazzbirds, founded in 1996 by the composer and guitarist Stefan F. Huber, is a high quality live recording of the concert in the Jazzkeller Burghausen on 15 November 2003. The band is convincingly versatile with its own, emotional style - a blend of contemporary jazz spiced with a pinch of Latin - which can best be described by the title “Urban Melodic Jazz”. The Jazzbirds, who are professional musicians in the Munich jazz scene, create their own emotional and exciting sound, encompassing jazz harmony and the rhythms of Latin, Swing and Fusion music. The big-city atmosphere characteristic of the Jazzbirds’ music, composed and arranged by Stefan F. Huber, arises from the driving grooves of drums and bass, the Big Band arrangements and the dialogue of trumpet and saxophone. On this evening in 2003, the band, including the late blues harp musician Knut Mattfeldt, played the songs from the CD “Sunrise” and four new pieces. The newspaper “Passauer Neue Presse” described the evening of 15 November 2003 as “A thrilling concert … urban jazz at its finest … whether Samba, Latin or Bossa Nova, the rich diversity is tremendous.”
Line-up:
Karl Lehermann (tp, flh), Wolfgang Wahl (ts), Knut Mattfeldt (blues harp), Stefan F. Huber (g), Andreas Urich (b), Bernhard Weithofer (dr).
