Jolly Kunjappu was born in the Indian seaport of Madras. In his parents home he grew up with traditional Indian music as well as with classical Western music. 1970 Jolly leaves India for Berlin, Germany, where he is based today. During the following years he goes on numerous extended trips through Europe, Asia and Africa. 1974 Kunjappu meets the ROLLING STONES and plays on their album "It's Only Rock'n'Roll". Later that year he goes to Jamaica where he is fascinated by the prime of Reggae. 1975 he produce his first single for Polygram: "Police Car Is Coming" - a big hit in all discotheques, 1982 Jolly's first album "I Love Dancing" is released. , 1983 Jolly composes the ballet "Bound To The Rhythm" for the Bavarian National Opera. This production is performed in Munich throughout the entire season, then it goes on tour through US and Columbia. Later that year Jolly composes the ballet "Dance To The Drums" for Stadttheater Essen. 1984 Jolly works and records with Roykey Wydh, Larry Coryell, Alphonse Mouzon and Curt Cress. 1985/86 Jolly works in Berlin, Munich and Madras on his second solo-album "Warm Embrace" together with Larry Coryell, Rick Keller and Wolfgang Lackerschmid. 1987/1988 Jolly records "It's Magic" 1989 "It's Magic" saw its release and Jolly tours Scandinavia with Airto Moreira. To enthusiastic crowds they improvise more than two hours each concert, exclusiveley on percussion instruments. Later that year Jolly tours with Germany's most popular jazz musician, Passport-leader Klaus Doldinger.
1990 First exhibitions as a painter in Germany and Austria. Great success in Berlin with his contributions to the "Artist And Wall" Happening. 1991 For the Eastside Gallery in Berlin Jolly creates a huge painting "Dancing To Freedom" which is exposed to the public outside the gallery. 1992 Jolly shoot his first movie as an actor, musician and painter. This movie has been presented at the Filmfestival in Venice 1994 Jolly shoot his first TV-movie as an actor in the most succesfull series "Das Traumschiff", shown worldwide. Also he released the new album "From Here Forever" which features Pandit B. Sasi Kumar, a worldclass flutist. 1995 Jolly released his first world music album "Power Of Silence". He worked three years on this album with 26 musicians from all over the world. "Power Of Silence" is a musical journey round the world, first time Jolly uses intensive ethno-rhythms, rockgrooves, Vocals, sounds of Reggae, Pop and Funk. 1996 Jolly presents his first Compilation "Touching The Spirit". This compilation includes his very best instrumentals of the last years and three brandnew titles.
