Description

Unusually percussive for its genre, the minimalist-electronic score captures the tension and nervous anticipation of the protagonists—from the moments leading up to the arrival of Adenauer’s motorcade at de Gaulle’s residence. Striking rhythmic patterns contrast with restrained synthetic textures and restless strings, underscoring the scene as de Gaulle and his wife await the German delegation.

In the film’s second half, the music gently explores the inner worlds of the characters: it accompanies the budding friendship between Adenauer and de Gaulle, as well as the painful recollections of wartime trauma. The score features sounds from classic drum machines, various drum and synthesizer elements, processed and manipulated noises, acoustic instruments such as violins, cello, and singing bowls, as well as the string section of the Babelsberg Film Orchestra.
