Information on album

Renowned director and screenwriter Dieter Wedel is the undisputed king of German TV-fiction. With a number of highly successful high quality TV- epics the Frankfurt born movie maker has made German entertainment history. When his new drama “Gier” (“Greed”) hits the screens in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via Arte and ARD in January, the TV- year 2010 will early experience its first true highlight! With a cast that reads like a “Who is Who” of German speaking movie stars Wedel once more addresses a currently hot issue: a finance scandal, triggered by an investment tycoon, who is equally charming and ruthless… The soundtrack has also been provided by renowned artists: Grammy winner Harold Faltermeyer (of “Axel F.”-fame) composed the thrilling score. Conductor and composer Eberhard Schoener enhances the movie’s thrill and suspense with the nine songs he custom- tailored for the key characters: Thus Ulrich Tukur, who plays the male lead, delivers a remarkable performance of a Schoener-penned kind of shanty, simultaneously singing and playing the accordion. May be this track has such a special flair, because it was completely recorded as a first take on location in Capetown, in a flat with a spectacular view of the harbor. Similarly charming is Harald Krassnitzers version of “La Luna”, which the Austrian TV-star gives a delicate touch of slight drunkenness, fitting to his character in the movie. A real discovery as a singer is actress Anoushka Renzi, who performs three pieces in the movie, including the theme song “Hello Joe”. Popular South African pop group Tucan Tucan and the Phambili Dance group, which was formed out of a social worker’s township project, each add two rhythmically catching tracks to the soundtrack. A rare gem is the song “Why Don’t You Answer”, which was recorded in the early 80s by Eberhard Schoener together with pop superstar Sting. It completes an Original Soundtrack Album which congenially matches the movie’s complexity and colourful plot.
