“Water and love belong to life — without water, without love, there will be no future.”

These lines capture the heart of the song: water and love are not commodities — they belong to life itself.

The inspiration came from growing global concerns surrounding water supply and ownership. When songwriter and frontman Williams Fändrich learned about the privatization of drinking water in London — where aging infrastructure causes enormous losses of precious clean water every day — he knew this was a story that needed to be told. Equally alarming to him are the increasing attempts by large corporations to exploit ancient deep groundwater reserves for profit.

Musically, Williams Wetsox combine their signature Bavarian blues sound with poetic and vivid imagery: dried-out landscapes, empty riverbeds, and the longing for clean water as a symbol of hope and survival.

The song is also audibly inspired by Water of Love by Dire Straits. Some passages feel like a “Boarisch” reinterpretation of the classic — translated into the realities of village life, drought, and today’s environmental crises. In doing so, the band transforms international blues-rock traditions into a uniquely Bavarian response to the pressing questions of our time.

But Saubas Wasser is far more than a protest song. It is a song about responsibility, humanity, and the value of things that should never be taken for granted.
