From
virtuoso session star to mature album artist with personality and charisma
that has been the way for Roykey Wydh, who nowadays just calls
himself Roykey. After Roykey had come from his home, the carribean island
of Aruba, to Europe in the early eighties he almost instantaneous became
one of the most requested live- and studio guitarists on the continent.
During these years he played countless
recording sessions and some wisely selected tours for internationally
established acts such as Patrick Gammon, Lionel Ritchie, Brian Auger
or Linton Kwesi Johnson. But his successful career as a sideman didn't
saturate Roykey's need for his own musical expression.
In
1984 guitar player Roykey Wydh assembled a carefully selected crew of
international top musicians in a small Munich studio among them
guitar master Larry Coryell, superdrummer Alphonse Mouzon and Germany's
No. 1 studio drummer Curt Cress. This summit of musical heavyweights
had been made possible simply because of the stir, which Wydh, who had
just a few years before come from his carribean home island Aruba to
Europe, had created among his fellow musicians. And the eight instrumental
tracks came up to the high expectations created by the illustrious line
up: "Secret Message" offered breathtaking electric rock-jazz
as well as purely acoustic filigree work.
