Sounds
and colours from Germany's deep south. Color Box is the common project
of a bunch of the finest musicians of the blossoming young German jazz
scene: The Color Box masterminds Volker Giesek and Robby Siemens have
already proved their team-quality by leading other groups of the Munich
area to success. Volker Giesek has also evolved as a sought-after composer
and arranger. Robby Siemens currently draws attention as a section leader
and soloist of the Big Band Burghausen with the famous leader Al Porcino.
Drummer Elmar Schmidt gives evidence of his talents as a seasoned session
pro who has worked with virtually every interesting act in Europe. Young
bassplayer Patrick Scales has been a member of Klaus Doldinger's Passport.
On
their debut album "Forbidden Blue" the quartet teams up with some musical
friends and welcome a very prominent guest star: Randy Brecker himself
contributes marvelous trumpet and flugelhorn lines to two of the tracks.
"Our music is focused on communication", says Robby Siemens, whose elegant
sax playing gives the Color Box its sonic trademark. "Like painting
it is a very emotional and universal way of nonverbal communication
- so it is not just coincidence that the name of the group and the album
title both have to do with colours." These nine timeless beautiful fusion
tracks, mostly composed by pianist Volker Giesek, prove, that intelligent
and ambitious music can also be entertaining and enjoyable. Uplifting
nonverbal communication on a high level!
