He is one of the true pioneers of New Instrumental Music. Since the early 80s Austrian multi-instrumentalist Gandalf (he plays acoustic and electric guitars, Charango, Balaphon, Bouzouki, piano, various synthesizers and keyboards, as well as a range of percussion instruments) has internationally gained a reputation as a magician of soulful sounds and as an outstanding creator of melodies.
More than twenty albums and numerous tours through Europe, the US and South America as well as his projects with stars such as former Genesis-member Steve Hackett or Tunisian world music champion Dhafer Youssef have also increased the sensitive musician’s dedicated fanbase.
On PRUDENCE Gandalf now re-releases a masterpiece from the Mid-Nineties: “Colours Of The Earth”, which comes complete with a beautiful and lovingly detailed new artwork, is a real classic of the NIM genre. Gandalf himself has vivid memories of the time of it’s creation:
“When I first travelled to the USA in summer of 1993, I was deeply impressed by the beautiful landscapes and gorgeous nature monuments of the Southwest. After I had returned to my home, I spent the next couple of months in the studio recording new music with all those marvellous pictures on my mind, enchanted by the ‘Colours Of The Earth’!”
With all their symphonic grandness the eleven tracks on this timeless jewel of modern instrumental music shine as brilliantly in 2007 as they did back in 1994!
