For more than 20 years now CUSCO is one of the leading acts in the world of New Instrumental Music, constantly developing, constantly stretching and re-defining the boundaries of this fascinating genre.
After their first successful releases in its home country Germany, the group released its international breaktrough album in 1985 with „Apurimac“, a record based on a concept not been heard of before. For this milestone in the history of popular instrumental music the CUSCO founders and masterminds Michael Holm and Kristian Schultze had combined the folk music of the natives from Peruvian Andes with modern Western sounds. The rest, as they say, is history. „Apurimac“ sold more than 500.000 copies worldwide and launched an impressive career.
Some years later Holm and Schultze wrote a new chapter of their „Apurimac“ story: „Apurimac II, dedicated to the ancient Maya- and Azteccultures was released in 1994, the overwhelming response of old and new fans encouraged Cusco to expand the „Apurimac“ - epic into a trilogy. For „Apurimac III“ they shifted their interest geologically: while the culture of the native population of Peru had been Cusco’s inspiration on the first two „Apurimac“ albums, these ten new tracks are inspired by the heritage of the North American indians. An aural adventure full of beautiful mysteries unfolds before the listener’s ear.
