With „fire blue“ ,her debut album, singer songwriter Micha Voigt has in late years captured the hearts of many in the americana and folk scene. After a one year stand still in 2005 due to the birth of her son, Micha Voigt has returned to the studio with a package of new songs, escorted by her long term duo Melanie Kraus on the cello and six stringer Matthias Haupt complimenting her own versatile guitar work. True to her debut, her second release „underwater“ resounds the personal note of a professional allrounder. Meaning, all instrumentals and vocals were produced, recorded and mixed in her own snakehouse studio. Accompanied by talented friends „underwater“ turned into a rich and variable folk album. These eleven new compositions are a reflection of personal experiences over the past years reincarnated through her deep, soft and sometimes touchingly broken voice.
Did the birth of your son have any influence on this new album ?
“Well, as I started recording the basics I was already eight months pregnant. Admittedly an uncomfortable time to start with a new album. It didn´t take long until I had to put everything on ice. Johnny was already one year old before I started to record again. There were times when he´d be sitting on my lap while my musicians were recording their tracks and I was pressing the record button. This also meant that I´d have to work mostly nights with the headphones on because the little one was sleeping. These were times where I was really thankful to be able to take advantage of my job as a sound engineer. Still, I dedicate this album to my husband Robby. Without him I´d never had gotten anywhere.”
